Monkeys - they'll throw poo at you and rip your face off.

I was looking at Craigslist this morning and came across this title "Healthy male and female squirrel monkeys for a loving and caring home". Well... OK lets see what this is, says I hoping its not for real monkeys. Oh but surely it is. This is CL after all, the wild, wonderful, horrific and outstanding place that never ceases to amaze anyone with the kind of stuff that gets posted on there these days.

currently on all shots of vaccinated and have all their medical records .. They are looking for some body who can take good care of them. please contact for details if interested in taking thee with monkeys.

*palmface* Seriously?!
Does this person know that it is illegal to own a monkey in the city of Toronto(if not the whole province)? Do other people know it is illegal who are probably inquiring about the cute little muchkins? Probably not, and if the owner does know they don't care.

Aside from the "minor illegal thing monkeys are not meant to be pets, they are serious business and can do alot of harm to not only you should they feel like it but to your home. Remember the story about the pet chimp ripping off his owner's face from awhile back? Yes these guys are alot smaller but can still do some serious damage to you. What vet is going to deal with it? I bet you $100 that there aren't any vets that have any experience with monkeys in the GTA unless they work at the zoo.

Nobody is going to look at that though, they look at those pictures and see two cute monkeys that they can parade around and dress up. Not the hard work that it takes to care for a monkey and the destruction it will cause as an adult. Most people get monkeys as babies because they are cute, as adults they get aggressive and destructive and aren't so cute anymore so they are moved on to the next unknowing person who just sees the cute and not the holy terror behind it that isn't meant to be a pet. The zoo's won't take them as they are pets, the best bet for these two little guys is a wildlife sanctuary somewhere.

I really hope these two fall into the right hands. I honestly fear for their well being and the well being of the people who get them.
